Remember that time when your favorite church band

came out with an album and you said to your friend,

“did you hear about blah blah and their awesome new record?”

you try herding your friends, like a musical shepherd

to the store, where they’ll join you in this grand escapade,

but some say, “that’s lame, let’s hit the arcade.”

(if you don’t know what an arcade is, you’re too young for the internet.)

So you and a few of your cool-friends-like-you’s

pile into the car and the chatter ensues.

“We HAVE to go now to that magical store.

All-The-Christian-Things sells cd’s galore.”

“I can’t wait to hear it!” says one of your frannz

“they’re so creative and different from all other bands.”

You get to the store and you purchase it quickly,

you’re now the proud owner of a fresh-shrink-wrapped copy

of blah blah’s new album.

Rush back to the car! Eject that old disc!

Cast to the backseat, time for musical bliss!

You press ‘load’ on the dash to turn on the device,

“Blah blah’s new album slips in there so nice!”

The first time you listen to the album’s entirety

is awesome and magical, musical propriety.

The second time is better, and the third it’s ok

by the fourth listen through, some songs sounds lame.

By the fifth and sixth time you know all the words

and now it’s old news, kicked to the curb.

Why did I get this, it sounds just the same

as blah blah’s six albums that normally came

out with good artwork and HDvd’s

so you can see that cute worship leader sing on his knees.

Christian music is extremely disposable

but something within it makes it unnoticeable.

The songs sound the same, but we still need our fills,

DOESN’T ANYONE NOTICE THIS

I FEEL LIKE I’M TAKING CRAZY-PILLS!

I’m a lot like this, and I always will be,

but awareness of this is something I need.

Music is just a tiny example,

that portrays how I lust for what doesn’t give ample

fulfillment in all that I see, do and feel

It’s like I’m a old wooden water-wheel

but the kind that has junk flowing underneath me;

it clogs up my cogs and I lack productivity.

I don’t bring this up so’s to bash Christian music,

but simply to ask “is there really any weight to it?”

Let’s open up hearts and have ears that actually hear,

so when blah blah comes out with an album next year,

we’re still in love with the message they had

on the albums before that spoke of a Dad

who’s in love with His kids and sent one of His own

to die, resurrect, and be sat on a throne.

For you.

did you ever stop and wonder

why our lives are similar?

All the thunder and the rain?

We’ve both experienced it…

We both understand pain.

That’s why I love you!

That’s why you’re my wife.

That’s why…

I want you there in the mornings

for the rest of my life.

You just changed your hair,

and oh, my goodness, I love it.

It brings out your eyes.

Let’s take a ship and sail lake Warren.

I’ll fish all afternoon and then we’ll leave;

no warnings.

We’ll catch the love we cast and sank

to the bottoms of the deep, vast lake.

We’ll dive on in and love eachother.

because it’s easy.

because it’s normal.

perhaps we make amends

I’d prefer it and it’s wise.

No apologies from you? No compromise?

Well, I guess that’s how it goes

and my history surely shows

the skies are shining brightly

on those foggy September mornings.

I don’t need apologies, because I love you!

I rove you.

on those foggy September mornings.

It was back in ’08 and I was taking a shower;

excited and terrified, stayed silent for hours.

Days, actually. I stayed silent about it for days…

I had heard from our God, and His message was clear.

Telling others, however, the thought drenched in fear.

There was a time for me when things were easier.

No bills, no debt, no troubles for me, sir.

Well, actually, I had troubles.

I had been through tough times, and Jim surely knew it;

telling him or my family too early would screw it

up.

I finally told Jim, and my family, and friends

about His will from above, and that He had a plan.

“I want you to trust Me,”

He said it so clearly.

“…To love Me, believe Me

and always be near Me.

I want you to move now and you can decide

where you’ll settle your bed,

where you’ll stay and reside.”

Dropping my bags, I set up the tv.

Made tons of friends and we all played some Wii.

Things had progressed and I got settled in

made friends like JD, and Dave Henderson.

TK, the St. Johns’, the Redmans and Reeds,

Magliones galore, and a couple of Steves…

to rhyme.

Volunteering at church and working at noodles

and landing a girlfriend and being a student

isn’t conducive to a bachelor life,

luckily for me

I acquired a wife.

She’s tastefully tasty

and beautifully grand;

I still get the jitters when she touches my hand…

That was corny. But I don’t care,

She’s my darling, forever,

and ever she there!

Life has moved quickly,

at a beautiful pace.

I now work for my church

and I love it so dearly

Three days in the office

and no longer in Greeley…

Thank Goodness.

I’m in love with my life,

my Lord

and my wife.

And if I hadn’t listened to the Lord,

my life would suck.

It would suck…

I’m glad I obeyed,

whatever my reason,

back in ’08, quite peculiar the season

I heard from our Lord;

He directed my path

allowing me to choose

(which is rather a laugh,)

but I’m tapping here now on these keys with great joy;

my wife is beside me and our pup with new toys.

I’m in love with my life,

my Lord

and my wife;

He always proves faithful

Way, Truth, and Life…

Jesus.

Four years ago I looked for a place to reside

I now share my bed with my beautiful bride

in Colorado.

Colorado.

It rocks.

Come here.

Come see me

I miss you all

Thanks for reading

Amen.

-Tyler and Kaila and Justus Woof…

Being a part of a church plant is definitely something I would consider fun, an experience, and most definitely a challenge… to say the least. I get excited to think about what the “DNA” (as some would call it,) of this church is going to end up looking like.

Are we going to be seeker focused? Charismatic? Baptist? (haha.)

When I was hired on into this wonderful family, it was displayed for me that this church’s “DNA” was going to be focused on people. Our efforts, both physically and in prayer, will be focused on serving our city and loving people; through this extroverted action we will display the love of Christ to others with the love that He has placed inside of us. We will “serve a city” rather than “start a church.”

But the one thing I’ve been wondering is “if people come on a Sunday, will they really understand who we are?”

Thinking about this has rattled my brain for the past few months. Is Sunday going to be focused on anything specific? Will our Sunday’s implore groups walking outside and giving money to homeless people? Will our pastors always speak on topics that involve us getting out there and fulfilling the Great Commission? Will we work on improving how things look or sound or feel? Will those elements even matter to us? Will Sunday be all that we have? My lovely girlfriend and I sat in on a discussion between our pastor and his mentor, and a lot of these questions were quietly answered between the lines of their conversation.

“we’re not sure how it’s supposed to look, but we’re doing it! we’re taking them in deep right away, even the unbelievers.”

My thought is that most churches, (i’m not saying all, but I believe that most churches operate this way,) operate out of an unnoticed fear that if we don’t take action in a specific, based-on-a-model-way, then gazillions of people won’t make it to our services to hear our pastors speak about the most important message that anyone could ever hear! We’ve operated out of fear that if we were to drop our guard and change things about our services or about our thinking, we could lose people who attend our church, and they could walk out on the Lord! This just in, walking out of a building is NOT walking away from Jesus.

Now slow down for a minute. I am NOT bashing the church here. I’m bashing the idea that labels on buildings, and the way they do things at the building across the street, and how worship is viewed at that one building down the road is what makes the church. Nope. The church is the people, and the people are the Bride. We’ve set ourselves up for failure in presenting Jesus to the world, because all of us present Him in different ways! Whether it’s tradition, only works, just faith, being charismatic, what have you! It’d be hard for someone to understand who Jesus is if we’re all telling them He’s someone different. We’ve set ourselves up for denominational separation from each other as a body, and from the lost who need to be found. We’ve operated out of a fear that people won’t understand who Jesus is, and through that fear we end up not trusting our Father with this area, so we act on our own. We make our services look attractive, and feel good to the average joe, (which is not a bad thing at all… feeling comfortable at your home-place of corporate worship is a beautiful thing,) but when it becomes the focus of making sure people are happy and pleased and keep coming, that can become dangerous. I’m trailing off.

I guess what the “crux” of what I’m trying to say here, is that we don’t need to reproduce, or even create something attractive in order for people to be attracted to Jesus. Jesus is the most attractive “thing” people could ever come across. When a non-believer sees someone raising their hands in worship for a few minutes they may generally think that person is a bit nutty for lifting their hands to someone that they believe isn’t real. But after a solid hour of that nonbeliever seeing that person with their hands raised, they start to wonder, “why would this person be singing and shouting at the top of their lungs, hands raised, towards someone that isn’t real? why would 25 other people in this room be doing the same thing for an entire hour? there HAS to be something real about this. God HAS to be real.” So they open up their heart, and in that moment, Jesus becomes real to that person. It could be 110 degrees in that tiny room, no air conditioning, smelly from sweaty people, and uncomfortable to the average person, but Jesus becomes real to that person, and that becomes a moment. A beautiful moment where God takes ahold of someone’s heart… and it had nothing to do with anything except people with a passionate love for Christ, displaying it in worship.

Anyways, I’m excited! I’m in love with my Savior and so “super jazzed” that He has led me to this place. We are headed in a direction where our Sundays will be geared towards looking attractive and comfortable, (which is not at all a bad thing!) but will still be challenging and thought provoking; and throughout the week we will have small Community Groups/ House church that is more relaxed, and looks more like what was displayed in the small scenario above, “sweaty and smelly.” haha. We will focus on the vision of the church, have a time for teaching and corporate prayer/ gifts sharing, and a time for worship. We will invite believers and non-believers, and shamelessly display our love for Christ, and the truths of His Good News.

…invite them to your small groups. let them experience worship, and prayer groups and being in a small room where people are laying hands on each other in prayer. let them be exposed to people using their spiritual gifts. even though they’re unbelievers…

So that’s what we’re doing! we love to serve the city, and display our love for people with the love that Christ has put inside of us. We’re all about serving, and all about the Kingdom. Our actions and our prayers are outwardly focused, and we’re loving our neighbors as we love ourselves. That’s the direction we’re headed, and I’m really really excited I’m stoked to see believers come together and get sweaty for Jesus, hahaha.

Well, God has been popping me in the head about this all day. I pray and pray about it, and the conclusion I’ve come to in regards to that question “if people come on a Sunday…” is that it doesn’t matter if people understand who we are. What matters is that they understand Jesus. I think that with the direction in which we are headed, and with the vision that we will all be united in here very soon, we will do well in being vessels that allow people to understand Jesus.

My life is going pretty swell right now.

First and foremost, my Father in Heaven has saved me, and delivered me from my stupidity. He loves me with an endless, impossible love. A love with which no person could ever achieve to love, no matter how hard they tried.

I’m in love with the most beautiful woman of God in the whole wide stinkin’ world. Her beauty captures my heart daily, and I’m truly blessed to hear her say she loves me. She’s supportive, and encouraging, and oh how she speaks to my love languages. I love you Kaila. I can’t wait to serve you, longterm.

I’m working for a church that has a passion for servanthood, a strong sense of community, and a desire to see people challenged, and furthering their relationships with Christ. Our pastor is a convicted, humble man, with a love for people and a heart for the city of Fort Collins.

I’m living in a pretty shady neighborhood, but my roommate and I are having a blast, always. Darts on the tv, covering the car he’s trying to steal in GTA Vice City. He’s a solid guy with a heart for Jesus, and the planet. haha. the planet….

God is providing for me, and my heart could never have any other reasons to be filled with joy. A life full of reasons to be joyful and thankful towards a Father who loves and a God who saves.

So as I sit here listening to Delirious?, I’m overwhelmed by God’s love for me, and the quality of life He is allowing me to live. Can’t wait to hug Him.

so I’ll see You when I get there

oh, and you should come to Harmony School at 10:30am this Sunday and worship the King with us.

I’m sitting in the crowd at the Timberline night of worship, and I see an elderly woman in the row in front of me. Everyone is standing and she’s rebelliously staying seated, (she’s gotten to an age where I assume it becomes difficult for her to stand for long periods of time.) She’s sitting there with her eyes closed and her hands raise at about half-mast, as high as she could lift them I’d guess… I couldn’t hear her voice when she sang along with Amazing Grace, but I saw expressions on her face that destroyed something inside of me. This was a woman who didn’t care what her expression looked like, but she wanted to give what she called her best as an offering to our Father at this night of worship. I (being stupid and human,) often judge people by what they look on the outside… but this woman’s heart for her God shone brighter than any flaw or trait I could have tried to pick out to hold against her. I only watched this woman for a brief moment, but that moment was a MOMENT for me. She didn’t care what others thought of her. She didn’t care that the best she could give was while she was sitting, while the majority of others in the room were standing. She wasn’t looking through the room at other people like I was. She was there for her Father, and she was there in spirit and in truth. I saw a true love inside of her that I only hope I can offer to our God.

I pray that when I’m old and weak, I praise God with all that I can as this woman did.

Thank’s old lady. Whoever you are. You taught me a huge lesson

AH! After a long week of moving into my new host home, seeing the South auditorium’s atmosphere revamped, helping to completely reform the Expressions service to an acoustic venue, sending off a broken guitar for fixing, getting said guitar back, and preparing to get back into the swing of things for nine70, i’ve come to the strange conclusion that I need to sell some things…

Already have a potential buyer for my acoustic Martin, but is anyone interested in an American standard Strat? Hot Rod Red with a buttery maple neck! (snazzy red pickguard if I might add.) let me know!

Listen to Brian Johnson’s “Love Came Down” album.
